What is Organic White Quinoa?
Quinoa is actually a seed but is enjoyed like a grain. Knowing this, it’s clear why it is so nutritious. It is an ancient food first cultivated in Bolivia and has been eaten for thousands of years as part of a nutritious diet. Pronounced “keen-wa”, this grain is hugely popular because of its taste, versatility and rich nutritional profile.
Quinoa is a relative of Swiss chard, spinach and beetroot with a pleasantly firm bite and fresh, nutty flavour which goes well with a wide range of other ingredients. It’s easy to prepare and cooks in around 15 minutes. It’s great in smoothies, salads and porridges as well as a wholesome side to our protein packed meat or as a meal in itself thanks to the impressive 12.3g of protein per 100g. This nutritional powerhouse has a light nutty flavour and firm bite and makes delicious porridge and salads as well as being a filling meal in itself or perfect partner to our meat products.
What are the benefits of Organic White Quinoa?
Quinoa is a satisfying and delicious carb replacement that is completely gluten free so it can also be enjoyed by anyone with a gluten intolerance. It’s a complete plant based protein containing all nine essential amino acids necessary for good health, growth and muscle repair. These nutrients can’t be produced in the body so it’s essential you get them from your food. It’s very rare for any ‘grain’ to contain all nine.
As well as being rich in essential amino acids, Quinoa is a good source of healthy carbohydrates for energy as well as a valuable source of fibre which is vital for good digestive health. In addition, Quinoa also provides iron, vitamin B2, E and A. The flavonoids Quercetin and Kaempferol are found in Quinoa which are thought to provide anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-carcinogenic and even potentially benefit mood.
