What is Mega Green Tea Extract?
Green tea is produced from the leaves of the plant Camellia Sinensis. It is commonly consumed by individuals looking to lose weight and has received a huge amount of interest from the scientific community with regards to this. There is a large amount of evidence from published, peer reviewed studies in favour of the ability of Green Tea to increase metabolic rate and the body’s rate of fat oxidation (Hursel 2009) which has made it incredibly popular in the athletic community. The only problem is, most people aren’t able to consume enough green tea to notice any real difference. Mega Green Tea Extract provides an incredibly potent dose of polyphenols and EGCG, the equivalent of 8-9 cups of green tea per capsule. How can Mega Green Tea Extract help me burn more fat?
Scientific studies as far back as Dulloo in 1999 have reported an increase in metabolic rate and the rate at which our bodies burn fat for energy after consuming green tea. Green tea is a natural source of tea polyphenols and catechins, the main one of interest being epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). The actual method by which EGCG helps to increase the rate at which we burn fat has still not been conclusively proved. The most popular theory is that it increases the availability of the adrenal hormone norepinephrine, which causes the body to metabolise fat stores. Mega Green Tea Extract also contains a small amount of naturally occurring caffeine which may help to further increase metabolic rate. A recent analysis of published studies found that green tea catechins were more effective for individuals looking to lose body fat when taken in conjunction with caffeine (Phung 2009).

Green tea has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years to support health and wellbeing. Regular green tea consumption is reputed to increase energy levels, lower blood pressure, improve insulin sensitivity, reduce total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein levels. However, these health parameters are still being established by the scientific community. Tea polyphenols are particularly strong antioxidants, Green Tea Extract has been found to increase antioxidant capacity of the body and attenuate the rise in markers of oxidative stress after explosive exercise (Jowko, 2015). The mega dose of EGCG provided by Mega Green Tea Extract may therefore help to prevent cell damage from the free radicals produced by intense exercise.
Who should take Mega Green Tea Extract?
Mega Green Tea Extract is suitable for anyone who is physically healthy and looking to reduce their fat mass. We recommend a dose of 1-2 capsules per day and it is best taken on an empty stomach. We find Mega Green Tea Extract to be particularly effective when taken first thing in the morning, prior to fasted cardio. This approach was recently demonstrated to help increase the total amount of fat burned during workout whilst also improving exercise performance over a four week intervention (Roberts 2015). Mega Green Tea Extract does naturally contain caffeine, so if you’re particularly sensitive to caffeine or have any health concerns then we’d recommend checking with a doctor before using this product.
