Ashley Grant joined GoNutrition as a brand ambassador in October 2014. The Pulse sat down with Ashley to get a little more information on his career and background ...

The interview

How and why did you get into your current sport? I began my start into fitness when I was 18 - I was very underweight for my height. I always thought about having a good body but never thought seriously about working for one. I got introduced into lifting from my training partner; still to this day, Daniel. He kept me on track and progressing consistently ever since. I get asked this question by a lot from people aspiring to build a physique, and I will forever live by it. The one take home I would give to people is that you should never want to rush you journey to change, consistency always beats the rush. What is your proudest sporting achievement? Currently my biggest achievement to date would be being on the cover of Muscle&Fitness. At my age and having only been in the industry a short while, it's a huge personal accomplishment.

Plans

What do you guys have planned for the next year? For the rest of 2014 and going into neat year we're planning on just pushing ourselves out there globally. We're getting a brand for ourselves and being established slowly around the different fitness areas of the world. I've always wanted in the longer run to open a gym and continue providing what I love so much for the new generations coming up. So hopefully when I become older I can pass on and nurture some of the youth into a path that I took or something better, because by then fitness in general will expand and more opportunities will be available. What motivates you the most? My motivation stems from within me. The desire now to prove to myself I can take it to higher levels and keep challenging myself. Why GoNutrition? GoNutrition I believe will be a good home for me. I believe that the directors have a vision and plans that match the path I want to take. I feel the company will nurture me, teach me things, show me new things and ultimately get the best out of me as an individual. I'm excited to see some of the ideas be executed.

Advice

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? The piece of advice I will always hold onto is to enjoy whatever it is you choose to do. Inside or out of fitness, whatever it may be. What is the worst piece of advice you have ever been given? No carbs after six o'clock! Personal lives - Ashley Grant

How long have you known each other and been training together? I've known Dan since year eight in secondary school. I haven't trained with anyone else other than him since the beginning. What is the other’s worst habit? Dan's worst habit is that he must iron absolutely everything. No exceptions. Nine out of ten times it doesn't need an iron to it but he does anyway. I now want to know what he said about me - probably snoring?! What's the silliest thing you've seen in the gym? Well I actually didn't see it because it happened to me. I was doing incline dumbbell and as I went back to start the rep, the bench collapsed to flat. I had to control the weight down to my chest, then I thought I may as well get a set out of this, so I just started repping out as this bench has just clearly broke on me. What is your best workout song? Currently I'm heavily into my rap though I go through phases. At the moment I'm listening to a lot of Drake. 0-100 is my track of choice, it's great for cardio. [caption id="attachment_2747" align="alignnone" width="640"]Ashley Grant - GoNutrition ambassador Ashley Grant - GoNutrition ambassador[/caption] What is your favourite cheat meal? Always got to have pizza but Domino's only! If you were to audition for X-factor, what song would you sing and why? I would definitely go for one for the ladies. Something with a bit of soul in it. I like Mario, he had a tune called How Do I Breathe? That's a nice smooth track. I would probably sing that to give a little bit of water works too, milk it and get a sympathy vote! Finally, most importantly, boobs or bum kinda guy? Bum! You've got to be able to grab something, right?!
