What is Essential Amino Acids?

Amino acids are compounds that form the building blocks of protein. When you consume protein it is broken down by the body into its amino acid components before being used by the body for many vital functions including the growth and repair of muscle tissue. Essential amino acids are those that the body cannot synthesis, and therefore a dietary source is required. Whilst most people will consume enough EAAs through their diet, people who regularly participate in intense exercise will require higher levels to meet the bodies requirements and prevent muscle breakdown.

Our EAA powder contains all nine essential amino acids and provides high levels of the three branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and in particularly leucine which has been shown to play a vital role in protein synthesis and the prevention of muscle breakdown. Leucine can increase protein synthesis by up to 33% and with over 2.4g of leucine per serving Essential Amino Acids are an excellent addition to your pre, intra and post-workout supplement regime.

What performance benefits does Essential Amino Acids provide?

EAAs have a number of performance benefits. They are key to the growth, recovery and repair of muscle tissue, as well as the prevention of muscle tissue breakdown. This is of particular importance during and around prolonged, intense training, as muscle cells can begin to breakdown. EAAs can also be used as an energy source when required and this can delay the onset of muscular fatigue. Some EAAs and in particularly isoleucine have been linked to the replenishment of glycogen stores, meaning that EAAs can have a direct impact on the bodies energy levels, allowing for prolonged physical exertion.

Suggested Use

Add three medium scoops (7.5g) to 150ml of water in your GN™ Blender Bottle. Shake and consume immediately. To improve taste mix with your favourite juice.

Do I not get enough EAAs through protein?

Protein powders, and in particularly whey protein contain high levels of essential amino acids. However, EAA powder provides a great way to supplement these levels in a pure form, without the unwanted calories, fats and sugar. It is particularly beneficial intra-workout.
