What is carnitine?
Carnitine is an amino acid that is produced by our bodies from the amino acids lysine and methionine, it is also found in small amounts in dairy, red meat, chicken and eggs. In trained individuals carnitine requirements can exceed the amounts that the body is able to synthesise and therefore a dietary source is required.
Why choose GoNutrition™ Acetyl L Carnitine (ALCAR)?
Carnitine is available in four forms; L-Carnitine, Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR), L-Carnitine L-Tartrate (LCLT) and Propionyl-L-Carnitine. We have carefully sourced premium Acetyl L Carnitine (ALCAR) which is the most heavily researched form of carnitine.
What are the performance benefits of carnitine?
L-Carnitine is known to be a powerful antioxidant itself, supplementation with carnitine has also been shown to increase the concentration of antioxidant enzymes in the blood (Lee 2014). Supplementation with ALCAR may therefore help to prevent cell damage from the free radicals produced by intense exercise. Furthermore, carnitine is a very popular diet supplement and is frequently used to help support body weight targets. Long term supplementation has been shown to enhance the rate at which the body burns fat and to have a glycogen-sparing effect during endurance exercise (Wall 2011).
